As part of a comprehensive cabin refresh, Air India is introducing a new configuration on its Airbus A320neo fleet which features a three-class configuration with a new Business and Economy cabin experience, and its first Premium Economy offering on a narrowbody aircraft.
The Gurugram, India-based carrier reported that two new A320neo aircraft – with the registration VT-RTW and VT-RTZ – have been refitted with 164 seats designed and produced by Collins Aerospace with 8 Business, 24 Premium Economy, and 132 in Economy. The new Premium Economy seats will be the first time Air India has introduced the product on a narrowbody aircraft.
Among the features Air India states the cabin will feature includes subtle cabin mood lighting, larger legroom and wider pitch, portable electronic device (PED) holders and USB charging ports. The airline's mood lighting will also include settings to celebrate India's national days.
“The introduction of a three-class cabin to Air India’s narrowbody fleet and commencement of interior refits are important steps in the journey of enhancing the flying experience,” said Campbell Wilson, CEO and Managing Director, Air India. “The upgrade of the narrowbody fleet, which operates on domestic and short-haul international network, complements the upgraded widebody experience now available on our A350 fleet and new B777s, and on all other widebodies as they are refitted over the next two years. This comprehensive upgradation of Air India’s physical product is an important component of transforming into a world-class airline.”
Each of the 8 Business class seats will provide 40-inch ergonomic seats with a 7-inch recline, an adjustable armrest, footrest, and backrest. The seat will also have a tray table deployed by a push of a button with a PED holder and multiple charging ports.

The all-new narrowbody Premium Economy seats will have a wide 32-inch pitch and a 4-inch recline, PED holder and a USB charging port. Economy seats will have a 28-29-inch pitch, 4-inch recline, a PED holder, tray table, USB charging port, and a coat hook.
Air India states it plans to introduce the three-class configuration to its entire narrowbody aircraft fleet over the next year. The airline's existing aircraft are now being progressively inducted for refit, while new aircraft joining the fleet will be delivered with the new cabin experience.
According to Air India, the A320neos with the new cabin experience will be deployed on domestic routes from Delhi to Bengaluru and Chandigarh from July 1.
